Bill of Rights Day – December 15, 2015

Our spouses fight to uphold and defend the Constitution with their lives. Today, is the Bill of Rights Day.  What does that mean to you and your family? I feel that its important to understand what our spouses truly fight for when they defend our country.

The Constitution was constructed over 226 years ago becoming the supreme law of the land in America. Each architect of the Constitution from Thomas Jefferson to John Adams realized enough was enough and the new land would bring a new law.

The Anti-Federalist also realized enough was enough and John Madison introduced 39 amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America to ensure personal freedoms and limit the reach of the federal government. On September 25, 1789 a year after the Constitution was the law of the land 12 new amendments  had been adopted to the Constitution. Later these the first 10 amendments became known as the Bill of Rights.

Today is Bills of Rights Day. What is the purpose of having a day dedicated to the Bill of Rights. If you look at what the Bill of Rights is, its a document giving American citizens rights that in the old world didn’t give its people. America became a land of the free and brave.

Here is quick list of the Bill of Rights:

The Bill of Rights includes these Amendments:

Amendment 1– Freedom of speech, press and religion

Amendment 2 – The right to bear arms

Amendment 3– Protection of homeowners from quartering troops, except during war.

Amendment 4 – Rights and protections against unreasonable search and seizure

Amendment 5 – Rights of due process of law, protection against double jeopardy, self incrimination

Amendment 6 – Rights of a speedy trial by jury of peers and rights of accused

Amendment 7 – Rights to trial by jury in civil cases

Amendment 8 – Protection from cruel and unusual punishment, excessive bail

Amendment 9 – Protection of rights not specified in the Bill of Rights

Amendment 10 – States rights, power of the states

I believe the bill of rights united and brought together a generation of people and still ensures the rights of American’s today. Let us thank our brave servicemen and woman in the military who ensure our rights are upheld on a federal and state level.

What happens when devastating terror is too close to home?

What happens when terrorism happens just around the corner from you house? There is really nothing you can do other than know what do when terrorism happens. I don’t think you can really prepare yourself for something so devastating.

Terrorism: What does it really insight? Basically, from what I could see online terrorism is any violent act used to insight fear motivated politically or socially.

My Story:

I believe when you think about terrorism on a large scale you know it exists but you don’t think it could happen near your home. I happen to live in Riverside, CA my wife works in San Bernardino. In the past weeks there have been many reports on the news about the San Bernardino Shooting.

The day the shooting took place I was at work and my boss mentioned something about a shooting. At first I didn’t think much because nowadays shootings are so common. My boss continued to tell me the shooting occurred in San Bernardino. I was in disbelief and I thought how could somebody do this? I then went to the internet to see news about the shooting and to find out what was going on. I called my mom because she works close to San Bernardino to make sure she was okay. Next, I text my wife what was happening. Lucky, my wife didn’t go into work that morning and wasn’t in San Bernardino when the shootings occurred. I was thankful one one in my family was hurt.

I went to lunch with a coworker and we watched CNN to understand what was happening in San Bernardino. As we got our lunch and sat down the gun battle between the shooters and cops unfolded on live television right in front of us.

It was heart breaking and surreal to a numbing point that something so tragic could happen less than 8 miles from my house. My thoughts go out to those 14 innocent victims lost on December 2, 2015. I was thinking what do can I do? Instead of being a afraid or just watching the news I  decided share my story and thoughts  with this post because I want remember those who were lost to keep their memory alive. Never forget.

I also wanted to relay information about an active shooter in this post in case any one was to faced with this kind of situation. I never thought I would have to prepare from something like this, but its always better to know what to do. We now live in an age where safety is a relative term.

Here are some great resources if you are ever faced with in a situation where there is an active shooter.

Be Together On 9/11: HONOR. REMEMBER. REUNITE.

Be Together On 9-11 HONOR. REMEMBER. REUNITE.1

Today is 9/11 and we are reminded of our Freedoms and Liberties as Americans in the United States.  Terrorists wanted to defeat us through heinous acts of violence but did not succeed. “Since 2002, September 11 has been celebrated as Patriot Day to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.” As a nation we take today to remember and reflect  on those who lost their lives back 14 years ago. Presently, some soldiers might be deployed and we must remember it is to protect our great nation.

Wonderful Words of Wisdom:

“The attacks of September 11 were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified.” – Mayor Rudy Giuliani

“If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn life is short and there is no time for hate.” – Sandy Dahl, wife of flight 93 pilot Jason

“What happened on September 11 comples us to focus on who we are as Americans, what we stand for, what really matters in our life – family, friends, faith and freedom.” – Bob Taft

There are many ways to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 in your community. Here are six ways you can honor and remember those who were fallen.

 Observe moments of silence

Hold a general moment of silence, or observe multiple moments of silence on September 11 at the following times marking key moments on 9/11. As in years past, these moments will be observed as part of the official 9/11 anniversary ceremony held at the World Trade Center for victims’ families.

9:59 am: South Tower (2 WTC) collapses

10:03 am: United Airlines Flight 93 crashes in Somerset County, PA

Share reflections with family or friends

Talking about your memories of what happened on 9/11  with family and friends can bring you closer together. Also, by talking about your memories you are honoring those who were lost in the attack.

Use Social Media to Spread the Word

We live in a very social digital age where videos or blog post can go viral in a matter of minutes depending  on how my people like or view a post online. Why not take today as a day to spread the word about 9/11 and the importance of remembering history with the use of social media?
